About Brian

Brian has over 40 years’ experience as a litigation lawyer, most recently as a partner for 22 years at the pre-eminent North Shore law firm, Simpson Western. Prior to that Brian was an employee and then a partner at the Auckland office of Buddle Findlay and its predecessor firm for 18 years. Brian also worked for a major commercial Law firm in London and qualified during this time as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales.

As head of the litigation team at Simpson Western and during his time at Buddle Findlay, Brian has through experience gained expertise in a wide range of areas. This included general commercial and property litigation, estate (including Family Protection Act claims) and trust litigation and advice, relationship property, building and construction (including leaky home litigation), intellectual property and employment.

He has appeared in a substantial number of cases over the years in the High Court, the Court of Appeal, the District and Family Courts and the Employment Relations Authority. and arbitrations.

His focus has always been on achieving the best outcome for the client at the earliest opportunity. Brian has had an excellent track record in dispute resolution through mediation and negotiation and judicial settlement conferences where proceedings have been issued.

He is an Associate Member of the Arbitrators’ and Mediators Institute of New Zealand Inc and has been involved in a sizeable number of mediations.

Brian was born and lives on the North Shore of Auckland where with his wife Debbie have raised their family and continues a close connection to the local community. In his spare time, he enjoys the odd gig singing and playing his guitar with Debbie and their musician friends. Brian and Debbie also enjoy the outdoors completing a number of New Zealand walks, mostly the hard way. When time allows, Brian also enjoys a round of golf and of course spending time with Debbie and their wider family.
